The Samsung Galaxy A31 features a 6.4-inch Super AMOLED display with an optical in-display fingerprint sensor — the same type of sensor found in Samsung's flagship Galaxy S range. The Galaxy A31 brought a meaningful upgrade to the 2020 A-series: a Super AMOLED panel with an optical in-display fingerprint sensor at a mid-range price point. The A30 — its predecessor — used a regular Super AMOLED display with no fingerprint sensor at all. The A31's in-display sensor works by shining an optical light through the AMOLED panel to read the fingerprint, which means the sensor is physically part of the screen assembly. When a replacement screen is fitted, whether standard or original Samsung OEM, all stored fingerprints are cleared and must be re-enrolled. We confirm the sensor is functioning with the new panel before the phone is returned.
The A31 also features a 5000mAh battery — one of the largest in its price class at launch in 2020. If the phone has developed charging issues, slow charging, or noticeably shorter battery life, a replacement battery for £45 can restore it to near-new runtime. The A31 supports 15W charging via its USB-C port, so if the phone charges only slowly or not at all, we'll diagnose whether the fault is the port, cable, or battery before proceeding.
